Frequently Asked Questions

Beginning therapy often comes with questions. Below are answers to some of the questions I am most frequently asked. If you don't find the information you're looking for, please feel free to reach out directly.

Getting Started

  • Therapy can be helpful whether you're facing a specific challenge or simply seeking greater self-understanding, support, or personal growth. Many people begin therapy because they feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or uncertain about how to move forward. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

  • The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and discuss what brings you to therapy. We'll explore your current concerns, relevant history, goals for treatment, and any questions you may have about the therapy process. The first session also provides an opportunity to determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

  • Feeling nervous about beginning therapy is completely normal. Starting therapy often involves discussing personal experiences and emotions with someone new, which can feel vulnerable. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you can move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

  • Not at all. Many people begin therapy knowing that something doesn't feel quite right but struggling to put it into words. Therapy can help create clarity around what is contributing to your distress and what changes may be helpful.

  • The relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. A client should feel seen, heard, and understood by their therapist to know it’s a good fit. A consultation can provide an opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

  • Getting started is simple. Reach out through the contact form, phone, or email to schedule a consultation. We'll discuss your concerns, answer any questions you may have, and determine the next steps for beginning therapy.

Therapy Process

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions, though frequency may vary depending on your needs, goals, and circumstances. As therapy progresses, sessions may become less frequent based on your progress and preferences.

  • Therapy looks different for everyone. Some people seek support around a specific concern and attend therapy for a relatively short period of time, while others engage in longer-term work focused on deeper patterns, healing, and personal growth. While meaningful change often takes time, many clients begin noticing positive changes early in the therapeutic process.

  • My work integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO), and other evidence-based approaches. Therapy is tailored to your unique needs and goals rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

  • Yes. Many people begin therapy after struggling with a concern for months or even years. While every situation is unique, meaningful change remains possible regardless of how long a challenge has been present.
